Cat Stevens
Cat Stevens is the former stage name of a man who now goes by Yusuf Islam. Beginning in the late 1960’s, the artist formerly known as Cat Stevens was getting his start as a rock/pop performer. During this time he performed with various artisits in the UK, including greats like Jimi Hendrix. After a few years of performing more pop-rock oriented music, cat Stevens reinvented himself as a folk musician. In the 1970’s, he achieved massive success and fame for his many projects, including the soundtrack for Harold and Maude. In the later 1970’s, Cat Stevens converted to Islam and took the name Yusuf Islam. His musical career would never again reach the heights it did in the early and mid 1970’s, but no matter to the man, he had found greater things in life to commit himself to, such as faith and philanthropy. Nevertheless, the music produced by Cat Stevens is important and beautiful to hear on vinyl.
