Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, a Russian composer, had an extraordinary skill when it came to orchestration. He was known as one of the famed “The Five” and was instrumental in folk and fairy tale subjects that became famous in their own right. One of his most popular works was the opera The Maid of Pskov which he wrote while living with and learning from Mussorgsky. However, by himself, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov was quite a prolific composer who sounds simply remarkable on vinyl.
